Automate parameters

Automation works like clips, not like point-by-point line drawing. Drop one of 32 preset shapes (sidechain pumps, fade ins and outs, sine and saw waves, trims) on any automation lane, or draw your own curve and drag any segment to bend it. The same tools work on tracks, on clips, and in the MIDI editor.

What you can automate

Track automation covers volume, pan, sends, and any plugin parameter. Clips carry their own gain envelope, which copies with the clip.

Automate with a shape

The fastest path is a preset shape. The curve is already drawn, so a sidechain pump is one drag instead of ducking every bar by hand.

  1. Show the automation lane for the parameter you want to move: volume, pan, a send, or a plugin parameter.
  2. Drop a shape on the lane: one of the 32 presets, or a shape you built yourself.
  3. Edit the shape if it needs adjusting. Every instance of that shape updates across the project.

Build your own shapes and reuse them across projects.

Draw a custom curve

When no preset fits, draw the curve directly on the lane:

  1. Draw the curve on the automation lane.
  2. Drag any segment between two points to bend it: continuous curvature, no bezier handles, no preset segment types. Ease in, ease out, or anything between: what you draw is what you hear.

Automation follows your edits

Move or split a clip and the track automation under it comes along, with no orphaned curves left behind. Clip gain automation is part of the clip, so copies and component exports carry it.
