Markers and sections

Press ⌘M to add a marker at the playhead. Markers live on a global lane on the timeline (the same row family as tempo, time signature, and key), and each one has a name, a color, and a kind: standard, arrangement, loop, or cue. Arrangement markers label your song’s sections, and named time ranges give exports a reusable region.

Add a marker

  1. Put the playhead where the marker should go. Wherever the playhead sits is where the marker lands.
  2. Press ⌘M.
  3. Give it a name, a color, and a kind.

Pick the kind that matches the job

Every marker carries the same three properties (a name, a color, and a kind), and the kind is what decides how it reads:

  • Standard: a labeled point: “fix this vocal,” “drop starts here.”
  • Arrangement: section labels (Verse, Chorus, Bridge); an arrangement marker’s range runs to the next one, so sections tile the song with no gaps to maintain by hand.
  • Loop: a marked loop region.
  • Cue: reference points for navigation.

Label the song’s sections

Drop an arrangement marker at the start of each section, name it, and the structure sits at the top of the timeline. Where the chorus starts isn’t a memory; it’s on screen, in the same row family as the tempo, time signature, and key lanes. Because each arrangement marker’s range runs to the next one, marking the section starts is all it takes; the sections tile the song on their own.

Export a marked section

A named time range marks a span you’ll come back to, most usefully for export. Render exactly the marked region instead of dragging a selection each time. Mark the chorus once and every export of it starts from the same boundaries.
