Import audio and MIDI
Drag WAV, AIFF, or MP3 audio and standard MIDI files from Finder or the browser panel onto the timeline. You can also import project components: tracks, clips, plugin chains, plugin presets, and note sequences exported from other Neutral Tracks projects. Every import is undoable with ⌘Z.
Import audio and MIDI files
- Find the file in Finder or in the browser panel. Audio can be WAV, AIFF, or MP3; MIDI is a standard .mid file.
- Drag it onto the timeline. Drop it on an existing track to add it there, or on empty space to create a new track.
- For MIDI, the .mid file imports as a note clip.
Import components from another project
Neutral Tracks exports more than audio: tracks, clips, plugin chains, plugin presets, and note sequences all export as files you can bring into any other project. This is how you reuse the vocal chain that took an hour to dial in, or a drum pattern you keep coming back to. Export once, import anywhere.
- In the source project, right-click the track, clip, plugin chain, plugin preset, or note sequence and export it as a file.
- In this project, import it from the context menu, or drag the file in from Finder.
A clip import carries everything it had in the source project: its fades, loop settings, automation lanes, and audio.
Undo
All imports register with undo. If a drop didn’t land where you wanted it, ⌘Z removes it cleanly, and you can drop again.
Troubleshooting
- The drop created a new track instead of landing on an existing one: dropping on empty space creates a new track; drop onto the track itself instead (step 2).
- A file won’t import: audio imports are WAV, AIFF, and MP3, and MIDI imports are standard .mid files; check the file is one of these (step 1).
- The import landed in the wrong place: every import is undoable; press ⌘Z and drop again (Undo).
