Edit pitch and timing with ARA2

Right-click a clip or track header and choose Edit with… to open an ARA2 editor (Melodyne and its peers) directly on the timeline. No bouncing, no round-tripping: the plugin gets live access to the audio, edits apply in place, and everything saves with the project.

What you need

  • An ARA2 editor installed: Melodyne or one of its peers.

Open the editor and edit

  1. Right-click the clip or track header you want to edit.
  2. Choose “Edit with…” and pick your ARA2 editor.
  3. Edit in the bottom panel. The editor opens in its own tab there, the same position as the piano roll and waveform editor. Pitch editing is part of the arrangement, not a detour into another app.
  4. Keep arranging while you edit. Trim, move, split, or duplicate a clip and the plugin’s view updates automatically; change tempo mid-song and it adjusts.

The plugin sees the whole track

ARA2 gives the plugin a complete model of the track: every clip, in order, with the project’s tempo and time signature at every point. That’s why the editor stays in sync with your arrangement edits instead of working on a frozen bounce.

One editor per track

A track hosts one ARA plugin at a time; choosing a different one prompts a confirmation before replacing it.

Everything persists

Close the project mid-edit and reopen it. Analysis data, pitch corrections, and timing adjustments are exactly where they were. No re-analysis on reopen.

Troubleshooting

  • You chose “Edit with…” but no window appeared: the editor doesn’t open a floating window; it opens as a tab in the bottom panel, the same position as the piano roll (step 3).
  • Choosing a second ARA editor asks to replace the first: a track hosts one ARA plugin at a time; confirming the prompt replaces the current one (One editor per track).
  • You expected the editor to re-analyze after reopening the project: it doesn’t need to; analysis data, pitch corrections, and timing adjustments persist with the project (Everything persists).
