Save projects and versions

Neutral Tracks autosaves continuously using the Mac’s document system (the same machinery Pages and Logic Pro use), so your project is saved as you work, with no save ritual, and reopens where you left off after a crash. For moments worth keeping, save a named version with ⌥⌘S and browse or restore versions in Version History (⌃⌘H).

Autosave

Changes are saved automatically, in place, as you work. There’s no separate save step to remember, and no “you have unsaved changes for 40 minutes” state to lose. The document system writes safely (it never overwrites your project with a half-written file), and after a crash the app restores the autosaved state on relaunch.

The project file

A project saves as a single package that carries its audio with it. Move it to another drive or another Mac and everything comes along. Recorded and imported audio is embedded at save time, so there’s no separate media folder to keep track of or lose. The package is the project, and moving it moves everything.

Named versions

Autosave protects you from crashes; versions protect you from yourself. Before a big arrangement change or a mix experiment:

  • Save Version (⌥⌘S): snapshot the project with a name.
  • Version History (⌃⌘H): browse saved versions and restore one.

Versions live inside the project package, so they travel with the file. Copy the project to another Mac and its history comes along. Autosave and versions divide the work cleanly: autosave means you never lose the present, versions mean you can always return to a past you chose to keep.

Troubleshooting

  • The app crashed mid-session: relaunch, because the project was autosaved as you worked, and the app restores the autosaved state and reopens where you left off. There’s no lost-changes window to reconstruct.
