Use plugins
Neutral Tracks hosts VST3, Audio Unit (AUv2), and ARA2 plugins: synths, effects, instruments, samplers, and pitch editors. Your existing collection works without re-buying anything. Add a plugin to a track’s chain from the plugin browser; latency compensation is automatic, and every setting saves and restores with the project.
What you need
- Your plugins installed in VST3 or Audio Unit (AUv2) format. Your existing collection works without re-buying anything.
Add and arrange plugins
A track’s plugins live in a chain, and the browser is where every installed plugin appears.
- Add the plugin to a track’s chain from the plugin browser.
- Drag plugins to reorder the chain.
- Bypass any plugin to A/B it against the dry signal.
Latency compensation
Plugins that trade latency for quality (look-ahead compressors, linear-phase EQs) are compensated automatically on every path, so tracks stay sample-aligned no matter what’s in the chain. There’s nothing to configure.
State travels with the project
Reopen a project and every plugin setting is exactly where it was. Plugin chains are also exportable as components: save the vocal chain that took an hour to dial in and import it into the next song. For ARA2 pitch editors, see edit pitch and timing with ARA2.
Reliability
Every plugin runs in its own isolated process, so a crash in one plugin can’t reach the session. See what happens when a plugin crashes. Scanning happens in a separate process too, which is why a bad installer never freezes the app at launch.
Troubleshooting
- A plugin doesn’t appear in the plugin browser: it may have been excluded during scanning; plugin missing from the browser covers exclusions and how to resolve them.
- A plugin crashed mid-session: the crash stays inside that plugin’s own process and can’t reach the session; what happens when a plugin crashes covers recovery.
